Investigation

1080 The Detective Division of the Boulder Police Department is responsible for the investigation of crimes committed within the City. The Division is responsible for preparing thorough cases to present to the District Attorney's Office for prosecution.




A Detective at the ReadyThe Division is divided up into Crimes Against Persons and Property Crimes. There are currently 6 persons detectives, and 9 property detectives. Detectives are on a one week on-call rotation and are available to respond immediately to the scene of a crime at the request of a supervisor.




Unit Objectives

The Detective Division's main objective is to work hand-in-hand with the Patrol Division to identify and apprehend criminal offenders. Through this cooperation, both units operate efficiently to apprehend offenders and resolve cases.

Unit's Role Within the Department and Community

The Detective Division serves a liaison function between the Boulder Police Department and the Boulder County District Attorney's Office. Patrol officers' reports/investigations are coupled with those produced in the Detective Division and are subsequently presented to the District Attorney's Office. Any additional investigation required by the D.A.'s office is usually also handled by the Detective Division.

Many detectives are also Crime Scene Investigators and are available to assist/support on-scene investigations of major crimes.
